Soundcraft MPMi 12 multi-purposefulness, providing 14 inputs, 12 mic pre-amps, 12 inserts, 2 groups, 2 sub-outputs, 3 Auxiliary outputs, monitor output, master output, tape
The Soundcraft MPMi 12 Multi-Purpose Mixer is truly a masterpiece of multi-purposefulness, providing 14 inputs, 12 mic pre-amps, 12 inserts, 2 groups, 2 sub-outputs, 3 Auxiliary outputs, monitor output, master output, tape out and return. The flexible routing options and high number of mic pre-amplifiers make the MPMi12 ideal for almost any application, including live venues, rehearsal rooms, houses of worship, studios, school theatres and halls.
The MPMi12 mixer provides 12 mono mic/instrument channels each featuring Soundcraft's GB30 mic pre-amps with XLR Female sockets, 48v phantom power for connecting condenser microphones and Insert sockets. All of the input channels, including the two additional stereo channels (13 and 14), have balanced 1/4” jack inputs for connecting instruments, a rotary gain control pot to boost the signal from +5dB to +60dB, independent send controls for the 3 Auxiliary outputs and a 3-band EQ. The EQ features individual high (HF) and low (LF) frequency controls which provide a shelved boost or cut of +/-15dB starting above 12KHz or below 80Hz, respectively. The mid-range EQ features dual control for frequency and gain, to allow up to +/-15dB to be swept between 150Hz to 3.5KHz.
The MPMi 12 also features two subgroups (L and R), which have discrete faders and direct 1/4” jack outputs. The subgroups can be used as a stereo sub-mix or as individual mono groups by using each channels' Pan knob to route to the required group (e.g. pan hard left to assign to group L). The stereo Master output has a single fader and feeds a mono output (1/4” jack), monitor output (2 x1/4” jack), a record output (RCA/phono) as well as a Master mix out via balanced XLR Female sockets.
Soundcraft mixers are always built to last and designed for the road. The MPMi mixers feature a canny PCB design with vertical mounting and nutted pots to add strength to the weakest and most used parts of the mixer – its knobs. The compact size of the MPMi12, and a weight of under 7Kg, make it a truly portable device. For those looking for a fixed installation or mobile rack, you'll be pleased to know that the MPMi 12 comes with rack ears as standard.
A short review of the Soundcraft MPMi 12 Mixing console:
The flexible routing options of the MPMi mixers mean that you can connect a huge number of external effect units, providing far greater flexibility than an on-board FX module and making it ideal for use with quality outboard effects units and processors. Similarly, for those requiring direct outputs, monitor feeds, or subgroup routing options, the MPM12 offers all the control you could need. Basically, if you are looking for large numbers of inputs on a small budget then the MPMi mixers definitely present a fantastic solution. And don't let the low price confuse you, the Soundcraft MPMi series deliver a good, clean and strong signal and are built to withstand the rigours of prolonged usage, constant plugging and unplugging and being moved from venue to venue.
