ALLEN&HEATH GS-R24 Analog Recording Console and DAW Controller

The Allen and Heath GS-R24 Analog Recording Console and DAW Controller is designed for studio recording and MIDI control of your Digital Audio Workstation. The mixer was developed from an ongoing conversation between designers, musicians, sound engineers, and producers from around the world. It combines the styling, controls, and analog preamp circuitry of classic Allen and Heath consoles with modern digital audio interfacing. The console features 24 XLR and line inputs with low-noise pre-amplifiers. Each channel includes a 1/4" direct output jack socket, a 1/4" insert jack socket, gain control from +6 to +60 dB for the XLR socket and -14 to +40 dB for the line input jacks, a switch between line and XLR with a 20 dB pad, a polarity reverse switch, 100 Hz Hi-Pass Filter switch, and a +48V phantom power switch to the XLR input.

For equalization, each mono input channel features a High Frequency equalizer knob with a corner frequencyof 12,000 Hz, a High Mid Frequency equalizer with a Q factor between 0.8 and 6, a Low Mid Frequency equalizer with variable Q between 0.8 and 6, a Low Frequency equalizer with a corner frequency of 60 Hz, and an EQ bypass button. By default, each mono input channel includes two pre-fader auxiliary sends for sending to an auxiliary bus, two switchable pre- or post-fader auxiliary sends, and two post-fader auxiliary sends for effects. These can be reconfigured as needed. Finally, each mono input channel also includes a pan control, push buttons for routing to audio sub-groups and the mono mix bus, push buttons for DAW send, DAW return to channel pre insert, DAW return to channel post EQ, a fader bypass switch, mute switch, solo/select switch, and a 100 mm fader.

For outputs, the mixer features six 1/4" auxiliary jacks, four 1/4" group output jack sockets, two pairs of 1/4" stereo studio feed output jack sockets, two balanced XLR main outs, six 1/4" 5.1 surround sound jack sockets, a 2-track out, and a 1/4" headphone output.

Pre-Amplifiers
The recording mixer includes 24 low-noise wide bandwidth microphone pre-amplifiers with local feedback on each phase
Parametric EQ
The mixer features a 4-band mono channel EQ with full parametric EQ over the mids, a continuously variable Q from 0.8 to 6, and low mid sweep all the way down to 18 Hz
Auxes
The mixer includes 6 auxiliary buses which can be used for monitoring and effects sends. You can achieve zero-latency monitoring by using the sends feed directly from the pre-amplifiers
Valve Channels
The mixer includes two valve channels which can be used as additional microphone pre-amps, with line-level signals, or direct from an instrument pickup. You can also re-record digital tracks from your DAW through the valve channels to add warmth to the mix. The valve channels feature a retro-style knob that allows you to control the amount of 2nd order harmonic content to warm the signal or provide overdrive without clipping
DAW MIDI Controls
The mixer's transport controls, rotary knobs, switches, jogwheel, and channel faders can be MIDI mapped to control your Digital Audio Workstation
Monitoring
You can monitor the input channels pre-fader, post fader in stereo, or solo in place. You can also monitor in 5.1 surround and use the six auxiliary busses for making artist cue mixes
Routing
You can set switches on each channel to determine whether the DAW send and DAW return is pre or post EQ
Recording Interface
Depending upon your setup, you can purchase either an analog or a FireWire 32 x 32 channel interface module that plugs into the mixer and seamlessly integrates with your DAW. The mixer offers a variety of flexible routing options and workflows within the analog and digital domains. Another benefit of the removable module is that it allows for future upgrades as digital technology improves
Integrated Meterbridge
For level monitoring, the mixer includes a full-width meterbridge with left and right moving-coil VU meters for the post-fade level of the master stereo bus, two LEDS to indicate solo in place, and twelve-segment LED meters for the valve input, stereo input, and mono input pre-fader channels
Power Supply
To operate the console, you must purchase the slimline RPS15 power supply which rectifies, smoothes, and regulates AC voltages using the secondary windings of the mains transformer. The power supply provides the necessary DC voltage to operate the mixer and includes full protection, thermal sensing, and fan cooling
